I'm David S. Ubur, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science,
Virginia Tech College of Engineering, and a member of the DVE HCI Lab, and being advised by Professor Denis Gracanin.
Welcome to my page, and I hope you will get to know more about me!
Also, please feel free to contact me for possible project collaborations!
I joined Virginia Tech Graduate School - CS@VT in the Fall of 2022 as Ph.D. student in Computer Science.
I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in computer science at Virginia Tech, where I also serve as Teaching Assistant. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, I earned a Bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Abuja, Nigeria, and a Master's in Software Development from Coventry University, UK.
My passion lies in enhancing communication accessibility and user experience for speech-to-text technology users. At the 2024 IEEE VR Doctoral Consortium in Orlando, Florida, I presented my Ph.D. research plan titled: "Enhancing Accessibility and Emotional Expression in Educational Extended Reality for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing: A User-centric Investigation."
Further, I am a Mandela Washington Fellow, having participated in a six-week leadership and entrepreneurship program at the University of Texas at Austin in 2017. I am also a Chevening Scholar, having received a fully funded one-year scholarship to study at Coventry University.
In the community, I am active in youth empowerment programs and serve as one of the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) ambassadors at Virginia Tech. Recently, I was selected as one of the 2024 NextGen Disability Leaders. Beyond academics and work, I enjoy watching movies, biking, playing chess, and socializing at events.
